What it did
TopUp Care was built to connect clinicians in Africa with specialists around the world. A doctor could send a clinical question to a network of specialists, with both identities hidden so the answer stayed unbiased, refer a patient on to a specialist, or talk a case through with other doctors in a room for their specialty.
What we built
We built the whole platform: the eConsult flow with anonymous question and answer, eReferral, specialty chat rooms and direct messages, separate views for providers and specialists, and a language switcher. Each consult asks for a clear question and at least 50 words of background, so specialists get enough to answer well.
Where it got to
TopUp Care onboarded six hospitals and clinics across four countries, including Liberia, Ghana and Cape Verde, with over 100 doctors on the platform. It has since wound down, and its founder has gone on to a larger company building clinical AI for hospitals.
