The best AI receptionists for clinics answer patient calls around the clock, book appointments and hand the hard calls to staff. Here are 12 that clinics and hospitals use in 2026: three each from the US, the UK and India, and three more from Australia, Canada and Germany. Every fact below comes from the vendor’s own site.
The list is grouped by market, not ranked, because the first question is whether a tool works where you are: your rules, your patients’ languages and your practice system. After that, it comes down to how it charges.

How to choose an AI receptionist for a clinic
In the US, get the BAA in writing. A US practice can’t let an AI receptionist hear patient health information without a signed business associate agreement. Arini says it signs one with every customer, and Hello Patient says it has one on every client. Ask for the document, not the badge.
In the UK, ask for the NHS paperwork. GP practices buying an AI receptionist will be asked about clinical safety and data standards. InTouchNow lists DCB 0129 and DCB 0160 and registration as a medical device, and EMMA says it is DTAC-certified. In Europe, ask where call data is stored: Dr.wait hosts its platform in Frankfurt.
In India, test the languages your patients speak. Aarvox says it handles 12+ Indian languages and switches mid-call, Voxerra lists 11, and ConnectAI’s voice agent is tuned for Indian English and Hindi. A demo in English proves little for a hospital in Chennai or Kolkata: call the demo line in Tamil or Bengali, and give it a name and a phone number to repeat back.
Check the integration with your exact system. A receptionist that books straight into your practice system saves your staff the re-keying. Strello lists TELUS Health, OSCAR, Accuro, Juno, eClinicalWorks and Epic, and Helen works with Best Practice and Pracsoft. Aarvox goes the other way: it needs no integration and works by forwarding your existing line.
Work out the price at your call volume. The tools here charge in three ways. Aarvox charges by the minute, InTouchNow by the call (and nothing for calls passed back to reception), and ViveoAI and Dr.wait a monthly fee with a set number of minutes. The US healthcare tools quote on request.
When building your own makes sense
Buying is the right call for most single practices. Building your own starts to make sense for a clinic group or hospital when:
- Your booking or hospital system isn’t on anyone’s list. Then every tool above falls back to forwarding calls or sending staff a summary.
- Your patients speak several languages. Language support varies widely between tools, so test each language your patients use; you may need a voice you can tune yourself.
- Your triage rules are your own. Specialty-specific questions, referral checks and payment rules are where generic scripts fall short.
- Your volume is high. At enough calls a month, per-minute pricing can cost more than running your own system.
That’s the kind of system we build: a voice agent wired into your own booking system, in your patients’ languages, with your rules for when a call goes to a person. We’ve written up what goes into a production voice agent, and our AI development team can scope one with you, including telling you plainly if one of the tools above would do the job instead.
Frequently asked questions
- Is an AI receptionist HIPAA compliant?
- Some say they are, but for a US practice the claim isn't enough: you need a signed business associate agreement (BAA) before the receptionist hears any patient health information. Arini says it signs one with every customer, and Hello Patient says it has one on every client. Ask for the document before a pilot.
- How much does an AI receptionist for a clinic cost?
- It depends on the market and how the vendor charges. In the UK, InTouchNow charges £1.00 per call and ViveoAI starts at £349 a month per location. In India, Aarvox charges ₹5.5 a minute and Voxerra starts at ₹4,999 a month. In Germany, Dr.wait starts at €129 a month. The US healthcare tools on this list quote on request.
- Is there an AI receptionist that speaks Indian languages?
- Yes. Aarvox says it handles 12+ Indian languages and switches mid-call when the caller does, and Voxerra lists 11. ConnectAI's voice agent is tuned for Indian English and Hindi. Test the languages your patients actually speak, including names and phone numbers, before choosing.
- Do AI receptionists work for NHS GP surgeries?
- Several are built for them. InTouchNow says 150+ NHS surgeries use it and lists DCB 0129 and DCB 0160 compliance, and EMMA says it is the first DTAC-certified AI reception platform. Ask any vendor for its clinical safety and data protection documents before a pilot.
- When should a clinic build its own AI receptionist?
- When none of the tools fits how the clinic works: a booking system no vendor integrates with, languages the tools don't handle well, triage rules specific to your specialty, or call volume high enough that per-minute pricing costs more than running your own. A small single-location practice is almost always better off buying.
